Anchor Basin Climate Buffer Wins Civic Landscape Award

We are honoured to share that the Anchor Basin Climate Buffer has received the Outstanding Urban Design Award from the Civic Landscape Institute.
The jury highlighted how the project turns flood protection into public space. Instead of a wall, a long planted berm raises the protected edge along Boston's Anchor Basin, with a crest path, seating slopes and nine bioretention cells that absorb stormwater from the surrounding streets.
"This award belongs to the neighbourhood as much as to us," said Marco Reyes, principal at Understory. "Twelve community workshops shaped every part of this park, from the planting to where the benches face."
The project was delivered with the Eastport Resilience Initiative and the Harbor City Water Authority, with hydrology by Ardent Engineering Group and construction by Atlantic Landscape Contractors.
